Can you tell us a little about the company and your vision?

Berto produces high quality denim fabrics for important Italian and international fashion brands.

The company was founded in 1887 in Bovolenta (PD) and it is still run by the fourth generation of the Berto family. The production still takes place in the historic factories so it is part of the Italian Fashion value chain.

We could define Berto as a contemporary craftsman: technicality and manual skills combined with the knowledge acquired over time give life to  innovative, high quality and sustainable products.

Berto’s vision is the philosophy of the  5 Rs : REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE, REPAIR AND RESPECT.

Each of these words explain our approach to sustainability and circularity.

What is sustainable fashion for you?

As in the previous answer, for us sustainable fashion is the philosophy of the  5 Rs. Following those five words any fashion brand can be sustainable. Moreover for us, sustainability means TRANSPARENCY.

We are proud to be transparent, to show everyone what we do and where we do it. From the yarn to the finished fabric we do the whole process here in Bovolenta, where the company was born more than 130 years ago. So we can invite clients to see how their fabric is made.

This for us is sustainability: all transparent and respectful of environment and people.

Taking into account the importance of the digital world at this time, in terms of trends for 2022. What will we have to expect from your company?

Of course Digital grew a lot in the last period.

In fact we also made an important investment in the last year. We created a beautiful VIRTUAL SHOWROOM, a website where clients can enter only with username and password that we give them. Into this website they can see the whole Berto Collection and the creative theme of the season.

For each fabric is possible to see a HD photo of the fabric itself and also some other HD photos of some garments made with that fabric. Of course also the technical info of each fabric are available.

This tool could be interesting for clients in order to do a “digital research” of trends and fabrics.

How could sustainable denim production change the fashion industry?

We all know that denim is a particular fabric, and if the production is not controlled and monitored 360 degrees, it could be un-sustainable.

In Berto, the VISION of the 5 Rs lead us through a transparent and sustainable production. In fact being a SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS for Berto is not the end goal but a SHARED VALUE.

SUSTAINABILITY is a process closely linked to RESEARCH and INNOVATION.

Over the years, all production processes have been redesigned and improved to ensure MAXIMUM EFFICIENCY.

If all the denim companies worked like us, it would be better for the environment and for all the people involved in the fashion world.
